I’m a home schooled SOPHOMORE, planning on going to college for premed. I would like to major in Biology and minor in either Women’s Studies or Psychology. Johns Hopkins is my dream school! I will more then likely be applying Early Decision

I know it can be difficult to get into Johns Hopkins University. But do you think I have what is takes to get in? What are my chances? What more can I do?

Classes I’ve taken/will be taking (9th and 10th grade):
•Anatomy and Physiology, Nutrition, Health, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Physical Science, Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry, Trigonometry, U.S. History, Advanced World History, Debate, Human Geography, Biology, Advanced Psychology, Chemistry, Grammar, Grammar and Composition, Vocabulary, Keyboarding/computer, Format Writing, Writing, World/English Literature, Introduction to Geography, Consumer Math, Medical Terminology (online and textbook), Art, Anthropology, Advanced Macroeconomics, Ancient Latin, German language, German history and culture•

Extracurricular Activities:
I volunteer at the:
–hospital
–medical clinic
–library
–YFU
–Cancer advocate (team captain!)
–Habitat for Humanity (during the summer)
–and the MS Association
FACTS:
4.0 unweighted GPA.
PLAN (preliminary ACT) score was 30 out of 32.
I’m also in the National Home School Society (like the National Honor Society)! (:
Over the summer in between Sophomore and Junior year (summer 2010) I’ll be taking a couple courses at my local Community College to become a certified Phlebotomist.
*Junior Year: I’ll probably be doing Biology research at a university.

Clubs:
- Knitting (haha)
- German
- Book Club
- Kickboxing
- Dance class
BTW: Just so you know I can NOT take AP where I live but by the time a graduate I will have taken Honors Biology, Honors Chemistry, Honors Physics, Honors Pre-Calculus, Honors Calculus, and Honors German language.

Thanks for all your opinions and advice! I will pick a Best Answer. (:
Yes, I do take taking external examinations. I also have someone that grades my work.

And yes, I’ve already thought about that. I have the money….or at least 99% percent of it.

You look pretty good, but can you afford Johns Hopkins?

Just because you can get in, doesn’t mean you’ll have all the money you need.

Going in debt 40-50K isn’t the smartest idea.

Just curious how you have an unweighted GPA if you are home-schooled. Are you taking external examinations?

Your SAT and ACT scores will be enormously important. Before you take them (and do VERY well), there’s no point in asking whether you are headed for Johns Hopkins.

If you WERE home-schooled, but are now in a regular High School, you should find a way to enroll in IB. This is the best available preparation for university and separates the home-schooled sheep from goats…

Incidentally, there is such a thing called ostentatious ticket punching — which elite schools spot in an instant, and dooms your application. Be careful of doing that.

2012:( I don’t know about all the qualifications dear, but i know it’s a super Hospital with the best doctors. I just went through reconstructive surgery there in 07 after a fall of 80 feet im 1984. It done a job on me down below, and no one wanted to take me on. Somehow my daughter got in touch with their best Urologist on the net here, and he took me on. It had to be Gods divine intervention as i had no money. The church paid for me to go, and i was able to get the help. Send me your name by E mail if you would dear. I am a 60 year old married man who believes heavily in the Lord. I led worship service, and music, and i will have our church pray for favor for you if you don’t mind. I see no reason with all the qualifications you have that you wouldn’t, but if God be for you who would be against you? You go for it young lady because the sky is your limit. I commend you for service for your country. Myself, my daughter, and two sons have all been in the service. If there were only more of you. In Christian Love, Steve
